Professional Introduction

Hello! In addition to being a proud student at the University of Kansas, I'm a 5th/6th grade English language arts teacher at Toledo Preparatory Academy in Toledo, Ohio entering my 2nd year at the district. I originally graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education at Ashland University with minors in Social Studies and English (2020). I am currently training to become a reading specialist at my school and transitioning into a new role as a title teacher for the middle school. I try to be involved in the Toledo community by coaching soccer and hosting the Lego club at my school.

My program of study is the Master of Science in Education degree - Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading (non-licensure). My immediate goal in completing this program is to gain the knowledge to be the best classroom teacher I can be and to demonstrate a knowledge of curriculum that puts my students in the best position to succeed. I chose the emphasis in reading track because it is not only my primary concentration in my current position, but also a fundamental passion and interest of mine to learn more of the language development in reading. My curriculum goals are eventually to take a leadership position in my school. This may one day extend into a role as a curriculum director or academic director. It is a personal goal of mine to eventually pursue a doctorate degree as well. I would like to one day become a great resource for other aspiring educators in this subject area and I believe that aside from continuing my education and meeting more qualified educators, the way to make the largest positive impact is by taking a leadership role.

While outlined in other reaches of the website, the purpose of my portfolio is to demonstrate my personal and professional growth throughout my time here in graduate school at the University of Kansas, particularly my strengths in reading education. You may see the most important concepts I've learned in the graduate program by viewing the reflection and more about my teaching style by viewing the learning outcomes and my teaching philosophy page.
